BOOK - TO SELL IS HUMAN by DANIEL PINK (At the bottom, you’ll see my favorite part of all...)
Business owner or not, this book is for everyone. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1 in 9 Americans works in sales. But dig deeper, so do the other eight. Whether you’re an employee pitching colleagues a new idea, entrepreneurs enticing funders, teachers cajoling children to study or parents trying to convince their child to do something…we are all in sales. Did you know that people are spending about 40% of their time at work engaged in non-sales selling - persuading, influencing and convincing others in ways that don’t involve anyone making a purchases?
Physical Therapists - convincing a patient to do exercises that may be painful in the moment but beneficial in the long run.
Coaches - pushing their clients/athletes to go harder to see better results.
Lawyers - convincing a jury of a verdict.
Daniel Pink challenges everyone to take a good look at your job, take a step back and realize you’re most likely “selling” something.
MY FAVORITE PART: Selling does have a bad reputation. But times have changed. Deception was possible because buyers lacked information or expertise. Now, buyers have reviews, ratings and comparison at their fingertips. (Uhhh, hellooooo AMAZON reviews?!?!) So sellers have to be fair and honest…facts speak for themselves. To sell is human...face it.
